The dial is rendered in dark blue, dotted with sparkling spots. In keeping with the design language widely adopted by Grand Seiko models, this watch features dauphine hour and minute hands, although in this case they are made of 14-carat white gold. The hour markers feature elegant faceted hour markers, also in white gold, with simple brushstrokes in the centre. A central seconds hand completes the list of functions. Made by an elite team of watchmakers in the miniature artist studio at Grand Seiko's Shiojiri manufacturing plant, located in the same Shinshu region as Achi. The watch will be available in a limited edition of 50 pieces at Grand Seiko boutiques in August 2021.
The blue of the dial has a remarkable depth, accentuated by what seems to be the quiet and delicate glow of distant stars. Unique manufacturing and finishing techniques combining stamping, plating and painting give the dial a different appearance at every viewing angle, just like the sky above Achi. The platinum 950 case is meticulously engraved with a pattern that is replicated in different directions on the Zaratsu polished case, again capturing the delicate order and ever-changing aspects of Achi's starry sky.
The watch presents a refined and slender shape with a diameter of 38.5 mm and a depth of 9.8 mm. The hour, minute and hour markers are crafted from 14k white gold to ensure their brilliance will last forever. The Grand Seiko name, minute markers and all other markings are etched on the dial.

Every aspect of the movement has been carefully designed without compromise. The power reserve indicator is located on the back of the movement, next to the barrel, whose shape echoes the bellflower, the symbol of Shiojiri. The edges of the bridges, the ruby holes and the screws are professionally hand-polished to a perfect mirror finish, and the tempered blue screws stand in stark contrast to the hairline finish of the bridges, underscoring the perfection of engineering. Caliber 9R02's outstanding 84-hour power reserve is thanks to a double barrel, in which two mainsprings are set in parallel within a single barrel, and a torque return system. When the mainspring is fully wound and torque output is at its peak, approximately 30% of the available power is not required to maintain the accuracy of the watch and is effectively wasted in the normal movement.
