The Float Test Myth

Floating seeds in a glass of water to sort good from bad is repeated everywhere, and it mostly sorts wet seeds from dry ones, since a viable seed can float for hours before it takes on water. I have sunk plenty of duds too. The germination guide on https://budweedseeds.com says to skip the float test and go straight to a damp towel or soil, which matches what experienced growers here have said for years. Soaking for a few hours before planting is fine, judging by buoyancy is not.
