We’ve just moved into an older house, and the original windows are definitely part of its charm, even though they’re getting difficult to use. I’d like to keep that traditional look, so sash windows seem like a good fit. The choice of suppliers is huge, though. Has anyone had sash windows fitted recently and found an installer they’d happily recommend?
We had the exact same situation last year with our 1930s semi. Sashes were painted shut, draughty, and the previous owner had "fixed" one with mastic (lol). Got three quotes, went with https://www.ambgls.co.uk/windows/sash-windows if you want a look. They matched the original glazing bars instead of pushing chunky modern profiles on us, which mattered a lot to my partner. Installer turned up on time, dust sheets everywhere, done in two days. Funny bit - under one sill we found a 1962 newspaper someone had stuffed in as draught-proofing. Kept it as a weird house memento!
