Summer trip to the States, want to catch a metal festival

Danzig

I'm heading to the US this summer for some tourism. Museums and monuments are cool and all, but I've always wanted to experience a proper music festival with some serious metal bands. From what I understand, there are tons of these festivals happening all over the country during summer months. Where can I find out when these events are scheduled and which ones are actually worth going to?

Summer's when all the big outdoor fests happen because nobody wants to freeze their ass off headbanging in February. The lineups usually drop months in advance so you can plan your trip around whoever's playing. Download Festival in Chicago pulls some massive names if you're into the heavier stuff, and Sonic Temple over in Columbus gets a solid mix of classic and newer bands. You'll want to grab tickets early because the good ones sell out fast and then you're stuck paying double from scalpers.

Trying to track down festival info by googling individual band tours or checking random venue websites turns into a mess real fast. Half the time you find out about something cool two days after it already happened. You can check the schedule of all music festivals in the USA here: https://myrockshows.com/fests/69-usa/ . Everything's organized by date and location so you can see what's coming up, who's performing, and plan your trip around the shows that match your taste. Way easier than piecing together info from ten different sources.
